'The Bridge' portfolio is a departure for me in a couple of ways: Firstly, unlike the other work on this site, it's a portfolio of images that are not of one country or one location, but of a single object (albeit a large one). Secondly, it confronts an issue I mention in my introduction to 'The Alien Eye', namely that it's always harder to find inspiration in your own back yard than in new and unfamiliar environments. This footbridge was erected just a year or two ago, and spans a river only two minutes' walk from my home in Singapore. Early one morning I was out with my camera when I crossed the bridge and was immediately presented with a series of striking images as the rising sun hit the contours of concrete and steel. The portfolio was in the can within an hour - a new and rewarding experience for me.
